    3. <<<BEWARE!! An e-mail with an attachment which contains at least two viruses is being sent out to this mailing list. The e-mail came to me as a reply to a request for information. The reply simply said to "Read this attachment." When I tried to open the attachment my virus protection program caught the viruses and wouldn't let me open it. W. Cassel>>>> Dear fellow listembers, Before we all panic about a virus, please let me tell you about Rootsweb's policies. All of Rootsweb's mailing lists are set up in such a way that attachments are not allowed. Virus attachments would automatically be diverted from being sent to members of our mailing list. Rootsweb has been set up this way for a couple of years. I think that W. Cassel has received this email from a private party and it may or may not have had Rootsweb or BYERS-L in the message or subject. But, if the message was being sent thru Rootsweb then it would have been sent to every member of our mailing list. I did not receive one of these messages and I receive a copy of every message, plus a copy of every 'subscribe' and 'unsubscribe' which is sent to this list. If anyone else has received a virus which was from Rootsweb, please let me know. As always every computer user with an internet account should keep their virus protection up to date, and if you don't have virus protection then you are asking for trouble. Never open an email attachment unless you know exactly what it contains. It is not wise to assume that it is safe just because you got it from someone you know. This is how most email viruses are spread. To W. Cassel: If at all possible, please find out the sender of this suspect email with the virus attached. I'm not saying that it didn't come from Rootsweb, but it is highly unlikely considering how the email lists are set up. Who sent the email and who was the email addresses to? This is very important to determine if the virus did in fact slip thru the Rootsweb system somehow. To everyone: If you are going on vacation, switching internet providers, or just tired of receiving the emails from the BYERS list, please let me know. If you can't let me know then at least PLEASE unsubscribe yourself from the list so that I don't have to keep receiving bounced emails saying that your mailbox is full, cancelled or out-of-service. If you need to unsubscribe for a while please let me know - I can always get you subscribed again when you come back. Good luck in your Byers research! 2. Yes, I know that our ancestors like to confuse us! I sometimes wonder if they are out there laughing at us. The date you have for Daniel's death is probably close. A few other people have Daniel as marrying Margatet Bratcher, but I haven't seen any proof yet. Maybe we can clear this up. Karen

    2. Well, I wasn't really upset, just tired of people getting the two Daniels mixed up. Sorry, if it seemed otherwise. All I have on Daniel, wife Margaret (mnu), was that he was supposed to be from Pa, the part that was first claimed by Va. I have never seen a middle initial for him. The grandson Daniel was a Baptist preacher.

    2. Well, I wasn't really upset, but it seems that several people have gotten the two Daniels mixed up and I was getting rather tired of it! Sorry, if it seemed otherwise. Now, all I have been able to find out about Daniel, who married Margaret (mnu) was that he was supposed to be from Pa, the part that was originally part of Va. No one seems to be able to track him back any further. Have never seen a middle inital for him.

    1. Byers/Byars/Acton
    2. Marg & Gord Hulbert
    3. Hello From Canada: My cousin, Margaret Taylor, and I are researching the ACTON family from Chester/Leicester. A number of ACTONs immigrated to Montreal, QC, in the mid 1800's. Our Elizabeth ACTON, b. 1832, was daughter of Samuel ACTON, b. cir 1804, and possibly Sarah BYERS/BYARS, b. cir 1806. We believe Elizabeth could have had a brother, Samuel, c. 1836, Leicester and another brother Arthur, d. 1867, Montreal, QC. Elizabeth did have a brother, Robert, b. 1848, with the same parents Samuel and Sarah. If anyone has run across the name ACTON in their research, please get in touch with us.
