This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UFH.2ACEB/645 Message Board Post: I am trying to assist my mother-in-law in learning anything about her father whose name was Elmer Byers. Unknown if he was married to her mother, Myrtle Wilson, when my mother-in-law was born in 1926. Stories heard include that he died when my mother-in-law was an infant (between 1926 & 1928?) and that he was being put through college by an older sister and that he may have been a member of the shell/ rowing team at his college. I did find a 1910 census record showing a 4yr old Elmer who resided with an uncle, Frank Holzaffel, in Philadelphia (enumeration district 103). After that I hit a dead end. I would be deeply grateful for any info.
I am looking for any clue to find the parents of Green Don Byers. Based on the 1860 census he was 23 years old, making him born about 1837. He was born in SC and was an attorney at law. He served in Company D and Company H of the 25th and later 30th AR. He was mortally wounded at the Battle of Helena, AR on 4 July 1863 and died in a Union hospital in Memphis, TN on 18 July 1863. I have checked the National Archives, AR State archives and have found nothing. I've posted to the SC sites with no response. Any help will be appreciated.
