Her name was Belmina Byers, and she was born in Ohio in 1828. All I know of her parents is that they were both born in Pennsylvania. I found Belmina in the 1850 census, in Columbiana County (Yellow Creek township, town of Wellsville), Ohio, at age 22. She is living with a John and Mary Carter, but I have no idea of her relationship with the Carters. Why, at age 22 & single she isn't still living at home escapes me. Anyone have a Byers line in PA or OH that might fit in with this information? Belmina had one daughter, Olive, which is the only clue that might point to Belmina's mother's name. Thanks so much. Susan

I saw your post on the BYERS list and hope you can help me. The information I have is from the 1860 Greene Co., AR census. Green D. BYERS was born about 1837 in SC. Family lore is that 11 or 13 or 3 brothers came from Scotland/Ireland. We do not know the parents or siblings of Green D. Byers. He was a confederate Capt. and was killed during the civil war. I suspect that the first name GREEN was a family name. There were many Byers in Alabama at one time. I don't know if this means anything. Any help in finding the parents will be appreciated. She was married to Hugh Minton in November 1858, in Wilkes County, NC. (Hugh MInton was previously married to Elizabeth Martin.) I don't know the name of Malia's parents. Census records show she was born in NC, probably in Watauga County. Her date of birth is hard to calculate because of discrepancies in the census records - she was probably born between 1830 and 1840. Her children were Matilda, John Henry, Julie and Ellen B. Minton. Any information regarding Malia Byers Minton will be appreciated.
I came across a court record from Henry Co., TN. William Byars died intestate about March 1858. It list his widow Margaret H. Byars, Paralee & James Olive, Elizabeth C. & Franklin Clevy, minors Missouri & Mary F. as his children. The 1850 Henry Co., TN census shows William & Margaret with children Paralee & Elizabeth. Does anyone know this family? Bill Staggs

Hello everyone. All my BYERS hail from Dumfriesshire, in south west Scotland. The information I have so far on my direct Byers' line, dating back from the 1850s, is - James BYERS, born in Wamphray 1829, and who married Janet BELL in Kirkpatrick Fleming in 1855 and died in Westerkirk in 1879. His father, also James BYERS, was born in Kirkmichael in 1802, married Esther RAE and died in Annan in 1856. After this, it does start to get a bit hazier. The next generation back is John BYERS, who married Jane (Jean) McGILL (born c.1780 in Kirkmichael). John BYERS may have been born in Hoddam - this is one of the leads I have been chasing up for some years now. Is any of the foregoing familiar to anyone? Thank you...Neil
