I have a Wilson County, Tennessee, BYERS family photo listed under the name ROBERTSON on ancientfaces.com After two years of intense searching, I am still unable to connect this family to any BYERS found in vital stat's in any TN county and would greatly appreciate any help anyone on the list might offer. The patriarch of my BYERS family is Moses A. BYERS (1824 TN to 1898 TN). He and wife, Lucretia Eller PRICHARD, had only one child - Sarah A. BYERS (1850 TN to 1867 TN). Sarah married Charles L. ROBERTSON and died at age 17, a week after giving birth to twin daughters. Moses & Lucretia BYERS raised the twins. Twin Sarah Laura ROBERTSON died as a young teenager without issue. Martha Flaura ROBERTSON married James Henry WHITE and died soon after the birth of her third child (my maternal grandmother) in 1896. I have determined with certainty that my Moses is definitely not closely related to the Moses BYERS from SC who married Elizabeth COOKE and moved to Putnam County, TN. My Moses was a farmer (per three censuses), a Methodist minister (per one census and multiple reports of him preaching in newspapers from the 1860's) and has a Masonic emblem on his tombstone. Anyone recognize this BYERS family? Renee

Samuel & Elizabeth had 9 children, 6 of whom were born in Va. now West Va. and the rest in Pulaski township of what is now Lawrence County. The one I need help with is William born in 1790 in West Va. There was a Samuel Jr., which causes the confusion. Samuel Jr. married Mary Gundy. The father of Samuel was William, also born in 1811. The father of William was John who died in 1799. I don't know the birth date. I need verification that my William born in 1790 was the William born to Samuel & Elizabeth. Some places show the birth date as 1789, that is why a hesitate to say this is my William I put some additional dates in the response on the original posting. Marta [email protected]

James & Elizabeth Piper had 14 children. I have their names if interested. These names and dates were mostly found in a book entitled the History of Mercer County, Pa. I am desperately trying to tie the William here to my William, if you can help I would appreciate it. So many things match but William is such a common name. My William's wife's name was Elizabeth. Samuel arrived in Pulaski township of Mercer County ( now Lawrence County in 1796) and my William arrived when Mercer County was very young, He came from Morgan town, West Va. and my William was born in West Va. in 1790. Some of the birth dates in that book were one year off inc! luding the one you supplied for Samuel Jr. so I am hoping you will send your e-mail address so we can write directly. Notes for KING DAVID BYERS: King David was one of 9 children. (Betty Loveland) At the start of the Civil War, King David attempted to join the Confederate Army but was unsuccessful because he was too young. He then enrolled in the Union. According to "Tennesseans in the Civil War, Part 2", King David Byers was a private in Company H of the Third Mounted Infantry. Both your information and this could be right, as soldiers sometimes changed regiments during the war. But my guess is that only one of these is right. Why? ... Both of these regiments, according to "Tennesseans in the Civil War, Part 1", were mustered in in the fall of 1864, fairly late in the war. The Fifth Regiment was organizes in Cleveland, Tennessee, while the Third was organized at Loudon, Strawberry Plains, and Knoxville. Company I of the Fifth included men from Bradley and Roane Counties, while Company H of the Third included men from Monroe County. Perhaps, if you know where your gggrandfather lived, this could shed some light on the correct (?) unit. "Tennesseans" has very little information on any battles these units may have served in. Mark Lacy, [email protected], www.iac.net/~lacy/AJLacy/ 5th Tennessee Mounted Infantry Regiment USA. Captain William L.Webster was in charge of Company I, which was mustered Feb 1,1865. Enrolled at Cleveland, Kingston, and Calhoun. Men from Bradley and Roane Counties. "Dyer's Compendium" states the regiment did garrison duty at Dalton and Marietta, Georgia; was engaged in a skirmish at McClemore's Cove, Georgia, Feb 1, 1865; was on an expedition from Dalton to Coosawattie River and Spring Place, Georgia, April 1-4, 1865; was mustered out July 17,1865. "Tennesseans In The Civil War" has King David Byers, Pvt. H Company 3rd MI. 3rd Tennessee Mounted Infantry Regiment USA. Organized at Loudon, Strawberry Plains, and Knoxville, in fall of 1864. Captain Joseph C. Gray was in charge of H Company. H Company enrolled at Madisonville, Monroe Couny, Sept-Oct 1864. Mustered at Knoxville, Nov 30,1864, and Loudon, Dec 2,1864. The report of Adjutant General J.P.Brownlow, State of Tennessee, dated Mar 1,1866, stated this was a three-months organization, and did no service, never being fully organized. "Dyer's Compendium" mentions a skirmish at Lee's Ferry on Sept 6, and at Greeneville, on Oct 12,1864. No reference to the regiment was found in the "Official Records". Hi Elizabeth & Sara, I, too, am descended from Conrad Byers. I am very interested in finding out more, and am willing to share. Elizabeth, I saw your pics shortly after you posted them I believe. You had been in contact with my Uncle Bob Byers ([email protected]), and he told me about the pictures. He has some posted at epson.com as well. They are wonderful! I am interested in where your line fits in with Conrad? I will be happy to share my info as well. Looking forward to hearing from you soon, Laura Gilmore ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth F Brown" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 12, 2002 8:57 AM Subject: Byers Photos >

Please, everyone, if your mail is to be taken seriously by all of us "on line", please give dates, dates, dates when referring to your family ties. Otherwise, even if the names seem familiar, without a year, etc., we just have to delete. Thanks.

I recall him mentioning the Moody surname. My Father was born May 12th 1909. When his Mother died he was to be farmed out to relatives and he took off to sea. He married Lois Elizabeth Mason from Albemarle NC and I am their only child, born in Washington, DC. I have never been to Maine but I did meet several of my Fathers sisters at his funeral. If any of this sounds familliar, please contact me. Regards, James L. Byers

She had a brother named John Robert Byers b.1862 and I believe their father's name was David. They lived on a farm outside of New Windsor. She married Peter Trite and they had 14 children. One of her children was named Ezra. This could be the same family as they did repeat names often. Would like to know if there is a connection.

His father George Frederick Byers b. 1760-1765 in Germany, d. 1800-1810, in PA. See http://familytreemaker,genealogy.com/users/b/y/e/Donald-A-Byers/BOOK-0001/0004-0001 This was very interesting.

You have mentioned in several of them about three brothers who came from Scotland, probably through Ireland, to the U.S. Do you happen to know the names of the three brothers and the approximate time period they came to the U.S.? Like your family, my family has a history of naming children after other family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.). My Byers family is rumored to have come from Scotland also. I have a John A. Byers, Jr., born in 1819 in Ohio, whose father is John A. Byers, Sr., supposedly from Scotland. I estimate John Sr's birth date to be about 1779. My John Sr. was in Ohio the last I know, but I have not been able to locate any death records or birth records to substantiate that he came from Scotland. Maybe some of your information will match mine. I have many Johns, Williams, Thomases, Sarahs and Nancys. Any help will be appreciated. You can e-mail me at either [email protected] or [email protected] Thanks, Joyce
