Author: GertrudeDodson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.byers/839.5.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dear Don, Thank you for answering my query. I appreciate your time and interest. I correspond with another Don Byers from Georgia. I need to explain about my Byers. I am not a direct descendant of that line. My ancestor was Capt. John McClain, Jr. who was an older brother to Rebecca McClain Byers. I have loads of material on the McClains, but have been working on the Byers family a short time. When I put in that query I had just made that connection. I thank you for sharing with me. I am always open to corrections and additions. Yes, I had found Rebecca's name spelled Rebekah one time, but after that I found it as Rebecca. So, I figured that was the name spelling she used. However, names have gotten changed all down through history. As for dates, I really do not know. Shortly after I made the McClain-Byers connection, my son died a sudden death from a massive heart attack. I am just now getting my concentration enough to work on genealogy. I found the marriage of David Byers to Rebecca Elizabeth McClain on December 30, 1800 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. The family family made their home in that area for some years. I saw some other dates, but since their first child was born in 1801 (long before birth control) I figured this was the correct date. Speaking of David and Rebecca Byers, I am trying to find where they are buried. The Don Byers in Georgia has helped me some on this. I am hoping I can go to that area and look in the cemeteries. Do you know where they are buried? As for One World Tree, I do not put very much store in it. They had my father as a brother to Captain John McClain, born 1760. That would have made my father 136 years old when he was born. The small amount I have looked at it, I have found many, many errors in One World Tree. Of course we all make errors. Again, Don, thanks for writing. As I said, I do appreciate you sharing. My husband, Robert and I have been to Beersheba Presbyterian Cemetery, York County, South Carolina.   I made a few pictures of headstones, but it was late and they did not make good.  We will be going back when we go to the  Clover Scotch-Irish Games in June.  I am going to try to get better pictures.  I will send copies of what I have, if you would like th Gertrude McClain Dodson Easley, S.C. However, your dates for his birth and date of marriage does not make since he would be only 12 years old. I don't have David as a son of Samuel but One World Tree does list him. I did find a marriage record for the date you listed as the marriage date they have here name spelled as Rebekah born 1780 with the father being John McClain and Jane Unknown last name. They had a son name Ephraim. The line I followed went through William Simon Byers. Don Byers Lubbock Texas Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
