Gwen- Yes- I missed the reunion at San Antonio. It was called off and may be rescheduled in the Fall? I did not change the subject on this email because my wife's grandfather had a brother Martin Luther Byers b 14 Aug, 1838. He married (1) Mary Catherine Wachtel and (2) Lavinia Mobley. He had at least two children Will and John. The family lived in or near Shepherdstown WV. BobHop ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Gwen_ Because of a rather vicious flu attack I did not go to San Antonio and thus did not find Bo Byers. Sorry. BobHop ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Hi Bob: I have heard about that virus going around and so sorry to hear that you have had it. Did you miss your reunion? Maybe you will be able to contact Bo Byers or some of his sons later this summer. I do hope you are starting to feel better. Hi Donald: You are doing great at researching your Byers line. Now what we need is someone new to join our DNA test group and have a match with your George Frederick Byers b. ca. 1750 Germany d. ca. 1800-1810 PA/Catharine Sams. I hope everyone will look at your family line on our Boyer/Byers DNA test page. http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Boyer/ Donald is Test #69771. We still have not indentified what chapter George Frederick Byers is in the "American Boyers" books. Does anyone on the List know where we could find him in those 7 volumes? What was the name of the Church where you found the record? Wouldn't that be Conewago, York Co., PA? I think I found it. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kymercer/LowDutch/Conewago.html The following is taken from "The Conewago Colony - Baptisms 1769-1793" by A. Van Doren Honeyman, Somerset County Historical Quarterly Volume 4 - 1915. I have kept the names spelled as recorded. Names enclosed by [ ] are my guess at missing This is a baptism record naming the father, the mother and the child that was baptised on this date. . My Grtgrdfather was Calvin G. Byers. According to the 1900 Census of Grayson Co., Texas, the info given by family after the death of Calvin in 1898 was that he was born in Georgia, his wife in Missouri. No proof....yet ! Calvin G. Byers was born ca. 1855-59 in Georgia. In ca. 1881 he is in Missouri somewhere and marries (Alice, Anna, Annie) Salmons. They have 4 ch. b. in Missouri and the 5th b. in Texas. Children are: Nancee Byrda Ethel, Marguerite, Robert David (R.D.), Clyde and Willie S. . I have been totally unable to locate Calvin anywhere except the place he died in Marshall, Texas where he was killed in a railroad accident while working for the T&P Railroad. He lived in Denison, Texas and apparently his wife was already deceased or "gone" as his children were then under guardianship of their maternal Grandfather, Robert C. Salmons. Can't find any info on his family either tho' census says he was b. Kentucky and his wife Margaret Chasten was b. Indiana. Sure in hopes this will sound familiar to someone. I have needed help/leads for a long time but am uncertain what to do. Thanks and my regards, Doris Kirschke Brown dkirschke@bellsouth.net
