This helped me find who I think is the Mrs. George Crawford I was looking for. It looks like she was Mary Ethel Byers-Crawford b. Oct. 17, 1904 and died Nov. 3, 1991, daughter of Ulysses Byers. The letters she apparently had were written by William P. Slack, who had lived in the Monroe County area and then moved with other related families to Wayne County, Illinois. He apparently wrote back "home" to Abner Byers to share the news of how things were going in Illinois. I am a descendant of William Slack's sister, Aseneth Slack-Yarnall. I don't know much about the Byers yet but am learning more about these Belmont/Monroe/Noble County families more everyday. Thanks again for your help. He married Clarissa Collins in Belmont County, Ohio in 1844. They had at least three children: Sarah, b. abt. 1847, m. Duncan Highman; Garrett, b. abt. 1849, m. Sarah ?; and Nancy Catherine b. abt. 1854, m. Daniel Cumpson. All three children had children. I'm particularly interested in information on a granddaughter of Abner and Clarrissa who is currently only known to me as Mrs. George Crawford. I don't know her first name or which of Abner's three children she was born to. She was the recipient of some family letters that I would like to locate.
