They were married in Cherokee Co, GA and moved to OK by 1900. Their children were Nora, Lizzie and Thomas Griffin (thats all the ones I know of) I believe that this William R Byers is the missing link I have been looking for, for quite awhile and would love to communicate with any from this line. I am trying to determine when William died (I have seen information that says Martha died in 1939). The will William I am searching for was born about 1862 in SC as were both his parents. All 6 of his siblings stayed in GA (in the Dawson, Forsyth, Milton, Bartow, Gordon and Clayton County areas) I would like to be able to get the death cert for William and it would help if I knew when and where he died. I have a lot of information on the Byers line and I am quite willing to share with people in this line. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am in search of information for the William Byers listed on the following census 1900 census of Indian Territory, Cherokee Nation, Chelsea, Dist 19 William R. Byers, b. May 1862, 38 yrs, Married 11 yr, b. SC. Martha " Oct 1869, 30, mar. 11 yrs, 4 chil,3 living, b. GA Nora " Dec 1889, 10, b. GA Lizzie " Oct 1891, 8 GA Griffin " Jan 1898, 2, GA ............... 1910 Census, Oklahoma, Rogers Co, Chelsea Wm 48, mar 22 yr, b. SC, concrete worker Martha 40, mar 22 yr, 4 chil, 3 living, b. GA Griffin 11 b. GA Ruby Holland, g.dau, 2, b. OK ......... Feb. 1920 census Rogers Co, Chelsea Wm 56, b. SC Martha 50, GA Ruby Holland 11, OK ............ This William fits certain criteria for the William Byers in my family. All I know about him is that he was born in SC, as where his parents in 1862, his family moved to GA in 1867. Except for an obituary for his father listing him as still living I have no other information on him. I have an ancestor that used to tell a story of having an Aunt that was lived in OK (he says she was an Indian and lived on a reservation) and that when he was 8 (would have been about 1892) she tried to get him to come and visit her and his uncle but he never went. I would REALLY like to tie the William in the above census with my family, it would fill in a large hole. Is there anyone on the list that has any information on this family that might could help me tie them together. I realize that the wife is listed as white...BUT over the years I have seen the other cherokee women in my family and others listed as white. Any help would GREATLY be appreciated. If I CAN connect I am more than willing to share the Byers information that I have. Shannon Byers Lilburn, GA -- Do you love genealogy? Do you have a brick wall? Good Evening all, Today I found some very interesting information I have missed before in my search of William Redding (Redin) Byers. To just briefly recap, he is the son of William Byers and Mary Roper of Pickens Co SC, he was born in 1840 and had the following siblings Elizabeth, Julia, Thomas, Catherine and James Riley Redin moved to Dawson Co GA November of 1867 and I have been desperately trying to find when he died and where he was buried. When Ga put their death certificates online I found that much sought after information!! I know now he died in 1923 in Ellenwood, the district on the death cert is one where one of his granddaughters lives (She was a Mashburn that married a Venable). This brings about a new mystery...I cannot find him on any of the census records for 1920, I know he was in Bartow Co around 1915 (pension payments were transferred there) and I know before that he was in Dawson CO (where they settled when they moved to GA). In researching somethings over again today I realized I had totally missed that his father William had remarried sometime before 1870 to a woman named Temperance and had more children with her, Andrew, Ester and Alice and they were in GA by 1880 living in Dawson county as well. I am trying to find anyone that might have information on Temperance or any of her children and hopefully I might find a new link to where he might have been living in 1920 thanks in advance Shannon -- Do you love genealogy?
