I have been on this list serve for only a few months but I am amazed at all the Byers out there. My ancestors came from Ireland originally to Ontario and from there to Saskatchewan in about 1905. Wondering when the US branch came from Ireland? Dear Candayce, I have been asking every BYERS researcher if they have come across a Green Don Byers born about 1837, probably in SC. He is first found on the Greene Co., AR 1860 census and is listed as a lawyer. He joined the confederate army, was elected a captain and was killed at the Battle of Helena. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Memphis TN. I would dearly love to find his parents and siblings, if any. Any help will be appreciated. Phil Di Matteo In a message dated 11/2/2008 5:13:00 P.M. are there any maps that show the enumeration districts for the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census for Pickens County? I'm tyring to locate where in the county particular districsts are so I can best attempt to figure out where in the county my Byers/Byars lived. 1850 says Eastern Division 1860 says 5th regiment, Pickensville PO 1870 says Dacusville Township now, I do realize these could be different areas and that they could have moved around, Im MOST concerened with 1850 and 1860, I was up there over the weekend and Im trying to place it in the areas I was in: Easley, Pickens, Pumpkintown anyone that can help me? I will be going to Easley saturday to visit someone at the Willows to ask some questions about my Byers/Byars family. Can anyone on the list tell me what part of Easely is considered Pumpkintown and Daucusville? I will be coming from Atlanta, and going 8f5 N to Hwy 8 into Easely, and as the Byers/Byars lived in those areas I would like to make sure I drive through there while I'm there.
