Dear Margaret: Here is what I have you Jonas Bedford Byars: He was born about 1790 in Spartanburg, SC and died after 1860 in Blount County Alabamas. His father was William I. Byars who was born in 1760 in Virginia. His mother was Mary Elizabeth Bedford. She was born in 1763 in NJ. Jonas' grandfather was Jonas James Byars who was born in 1740 in Hanover, Orange County, VA. He died in 1823 in Rutherford, NC. Jonas married Betty Francis Collins, as yet I do not have anything further on her. Jonas and Betty had the following children: William I. Byars born in 1760 in Virginia. James Byars was born 10-22-1761 in Granville County, NC. Then Henrietta Byars, and it is my asumption that she was also born in Granville County, North Carolina. William I Byars and Mary Elizabeth Bedford had the following children: 1) Robert Byars 1786 in NC 2) Rebekah Byars 1788 in NC 3) Jonas Bedford Byars 1790 in Spartanburg SC 4) Joseph "Joe" Byars was born 6-7-1792 in Spartanburg 5) Lydia Byars was born 1792 in Spartanburg 6) Joshua James Byars born 1794 in Spartanburg. 7) Seth Byars 1796 in Trough Mills, 96th District (Pacolet Mills), Spartanburg, SC 8) Nancy Byars 1798 in Spartanburg SC 9)Eunice Byars 1802 in Spartanburg SC 10)Joab Byars 8-11-1807 Spartanburg SC 11)Susie Byars 1809 in Spartanburg 12)Andrew Byars 13)Elizabeth Byars 14)Charlotte Byars Jonas James Byars' father was James Henry Byars who was born in 1713 in Hahover County, Orange County, Virginia. He married Margaret Rachel "Peggy" Matthews. James Henry Byars is also one of my ggrandfathers. I have much, much more on our Byars ancestors.
