Laurie: Have not heard from in a long time. Is everything okay. Let me hear from you, as I have news for you.
Hello Laurie: Are you doing okay. I tried to send you an e-mail a couple of times and it kept coming back. My daughter is giving me a Family Tree Maker for Christmas and I am going to put everything on that and then download it to a disk, I want to send everyone a disc for their use. I thought that would be better than trying to mail everything, since I have so much going on right now. Let me know if you would prefer that I mail you everything or send you a disk after Christmas. Sorry I have not heard from you, but I know how it is working and doing Christmas. Sue

Hi: I just got your e-mail and was so excited I am still doing my Byars family tree and have been working on it for the past 8 years. Is there anyway I could get a copy of what you have and compare with mine. From what you sent me, I go all the way back to John Byars, who was born in 1690, not 1675, and his spouse was Elizabeth Glen who was born in 1694, I know that there are several people who has other birthdates, but from all the family and census, I have found her born in 1694. Of course I am still searching. Let me know what you need and I will be more than happy to forward it to you. Sue Byars Walker

I am trying to get in contact with Jeannine Griffith. She sent me a download that I cannot open. It is regarding Keziah Glen Harris, Elizabeth Glen Byars and Mourning Glen Harris. I tried to reply but the message came back as no delivered because of errors in the address. I need a correct address. Also, I cannot open the file she sent. Cheers, Wilma Kelly

HI . . . I've finally managed to get my extensive family genealogy information posted to the Web. It resides on the Web site for Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History, specifically at http://www.hiltonpond.org/GenealogyMain.html . (It may be extensive, but there are still LOTS of holes to fill!) Included are listings for the main ancestral lines for me and my wife, as follows: --Ballard --Byars --Dressler --Franks --Hilton --Krug --Lauderback --Schade --Strange --Werle There are lots of other surnames, of course, so you might want to check the on-line Index. Please let me know if you find this information of interest and/or if you have anything to add. Best wishes, BILL -- ********** BILL HILTON JR. Dear Jan, This is very interesting. I have been looking at all my material. The conventional wisdom is that Elizabeth Glen was born abt. 1694, she md. John Byars bef 1713. She would be 67 when her father died. This seems early for the family in the will. The other information for Elizabeth Glen has her born 1744. Do we really know when the children of James and Hannah Glenn were born? It is confusing. It is a very good lead. And may lead me to the parents of Nathaniel Harris who md. Martha Byars in 1788. Cheers, Wilma
Hi Wilma - I'm a descendant of James Henry BYARS and have also been looking for Elizabeth GLEN. I found a will for James GLEN of St. Martin's Parish in Hanover Co, written 11 Jun 1762, probated 03 Feb 1763. He names his sons: Gideon, Nehemiah, Nathan, James, Thompson; daughters: Gemima Symes, Hannah Austin, Mary Hopkins, ELIZABETH BYAFS, Anna Glen, Keziah HARRIS and Sarah Dabney; wife Hannah Glen; grandchildren: Frances Harris, Jude Harris, Anna Glen Harris, Molley Glen Harris, Peter Harris, Tyre Harris. Several times he mentions a plan drawn by Robert Harris (when talking about his plantations.) This was found in the VA Historical Magazine and there's an introductory paragraph which says: In "Hopkins of Virginia and Related Families" by Walter L. Hopkins, pp. 187-190 are some interesting letters written by David Hopkins in 1780 to his sons, the nephews of James Glen the testator of the will, at whose home these boys were living while their father was serving his country in the Revolutionary War. I haven't located this book yet, but would love to see these letters. I showed John Glen as the father of Elizabeth Byars and haven't decided yet what I think of this will, although it's pretty convincing. James Henry Byars had a daughter named Mourning who married William Corley. Do any of these Harris grandchildren fit in with the information you have on Robert Harris? Thanks again. I have most of that info. I am on the two Harris list, as well. Nathaniel is a brick wall. Nothing to link him with any parents has been found. He left plenty of information to show that he lived. Martha Byars is well documented also. It is the Glen family that I am curious because of the marriage of Mourning to Robert Harris. Anyway thanks again. Wilma
You have the correct Mourning Glen. I have tried to find more on Elizabeth but to no avail. Cheers, Wilma Kelly
The only Mourning Glen I have come across is the daughter of James Glenn and Mourning Winn. They were both born in Accomac County Virginia. James was born in 1664 and Mourning was born in 1668. Mourning married Robert Harris in 1720, which I think would be in Virginia Also. Mourning and Robert had 11 children; christopher, anna, tyree, mary, mourning Glenn, lucy, sarah, robert, rachael, frances and william. Martha Byars was the daughter of John Byars and Elizabeth Thomason. She was born 5-7-1766 in Louisa County Virginia. She married Nathaniel Harris on 5-17-1788 in Louisa County Virginia. Nathaniel Harris was boorn in 1762 in Louisa County, Virginia. They had the following children: John, Susan, Mary, Garrett, James Nathan, and Nathaniel They were all born in Smythe County Virginia. PS; Nathaniel was born 1-20-1763 in Louisa County, Virginia and died 4-25-1854 in Smythe County, VA.. Rev. Was Pension file S5456: Enlisted in 1780 in Louisa County, VA as a private in the company commanded by Capt. Robert Bennett (or Bassett) of the regiment commanded by Col James Taylor. Guarded prisioners in Albermarle County taken by Gen. Bergoyne, then discharged shortly after the surrendeer of Cornwalllis. He served fourteen months. Pension granted of $116.66 was granted in October 1832 at age of 69. Nathaniel and Martha were married by Rev. Douglas. Sources: Douglas Register, Goochland County, Virginia Hope this helps you. Sue
Is there any information about Elizabeth Glen? Is she a relative of the family of Mourning Glen? This Byars is my family down to Martha Byars who md. Nathaniel Harris. Cheers, Wilma Kelly
My John Byars was born in 1675 in Kent County, Virginia and died after January of 1734 in Virginia. He married Elizabeth Glen who was born in Virginia Also. They had the following children: Jerimiah Byars, Jesse Byars, and John Byars, James Henry Byars, Jonas Byars. All the children were born in Virginia, however some years later they moved into North Carolina, Georgia, and then into Alabama, Jefferson County, Alabama. I am the ggggrandaughter of James Henry Byars. Sue Byars Walker
