    1. Re: [BYARS] Re: William C. 'Butterfield' Byars
    2. Just a short response now, I am working on a GED file, which will contain more information. You know time constraints now. William Cuten Butterfield Byars is my greatgrandfather, who died in 1926 in Calhoun County, Mississippi. He is buried in Old Gauley cemetary, only 2-3 miles from where he lived most of his life. He has a Confederate marker on his grave, 29th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. In the Civil War he was wounded at Stone's River, near Murfreesboro, Tennessee, captured at Lookout Mountain, Tennessee and sent to Rock Island Prision, Illiniois. His first wife was Eliza McGuire and my grandfather, William Randolph Byars, b1858, was one of their children. The line is Joab Byars, William Cuten Butterfield Byars (he signed his name WCB Byars), William Randolph, Shed Hill, and my name is Raleigh Hill Byars. I have information on most of the children of Joab Byars, including WCB Byars, which I hope to get into a GED file one of these days. Hope this is helpfull.

    3. Any one have a William Byers who married Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Caldwell ? He probably is a decendant of William C.Byars, the William I need was b.Jun 1870 . William Cuton Byars was wed to Susan Emma Patterson, though in this marriage he had no children. I can't find where the William b. Jun1870 belongs. The parents I found in several sources for William C.Byars were : Joab Byars b. 11 Aug. 1807 Spartanburg, SC and died 24 Dec.1884 Calhoun Co. Miss. the mother was ;Henrietta Arendale b. 8 Feb. 1805-2 Sep.1892 Calhoun Co. Miss. They had nine children including William Cuton Butterfield Byars. I have all their dates etc.Joab and Henrietta were married 10 Aug 1829 SC William I. was his grandfather and he died in 1819 in Spartanburg SC His Grandmother Elizabeth Bedford b. 1763 died in 1847 in Chickasaw , Miss. I've got more on the family but haven't entered it all in my PAF yet. Henrietta's Father was Richard and her mother was Mary Blackwell. I saw a book at the Dallas Library that contained a huge amout of Byars info. Pictures, letters etc. Also the Calhoun County Genealogical Society has been publishing some things in the past like his Confederate Record. etc. Is their information up on the web somewhere? I would love more info. But this William b. in 1870 is a son of one of the children of Joab and I just can't place him or find where he went after marriage. Susan in Texas > > I would love to have a copy of the letter you have on William C.. "Butterfield" Byars. Have been doing a lot of research on my Byars ancestry and have found that William's father was William I. Byars and Elizabeth Bedford. This is also my line, so sorry that I did not check your message sooner. I have my ancestry of the Byars going back to John Byars born in Virginia in 1690. I will be more than happy to share what I have with you. Sue >
