Hi Graeme, Thanks for your comments, the team has done a great job. My suspicion is that this is possibly an error by the census enumerator and should be F.S. - female servant. (They were, after all, human, and like the rest of us, prone to the occasional error.) The enumerators did have a list of abbreviations that they could use however this wasn't one of them and in all such cases with the transcribing, it is recorded "as is" and left for the researcher to ponder on. Standard abbreviations have been expanded in the database. Grace was the last listing in a household with professional members and it would have been rather uncommon in those circumstances if there was not a domestic employee. While on the subject of the census, Kilmory parish in Arran is now in the database and Kilbride will be available in about 2 days.(Both 1841) Regards Bill Coordinator for Buteshire 1841 FreeCensus Project Link to Home Page: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~buteshire1841/index.htm
