I would suspect that the gravestone was erected by the children who died in the 1940/1960's who went on memory, or family lore, which was simply in error. The family may have been unable to afford a gravestone before this period. Many graves were simply marked by wooden crosses which rotted away. edward Limpsfield, Surrey Using Norton SystemWorks
Edward Thanks for this suggestion, which is similar to one sent to me by someone else off-list, and therefore I am replying similarly. You may be right, but it's strange that the "false memories" were so precise (and wrong) about the dates - five times. It's almost as if a second unrelated set of dates was written down correctly for a different purpose and then mixed up with the first one. Thanks for your interest.
