If anyone has access to the 1891 census for Arran, I could use some help with a look up. I would like to see if Angus McKillop, age 37, is living with anyone in the Kilmory District. The numbers following the entry in the Scots Origin entry are 2-554-0-7-0-6. This will probably be Shiskine. There is another record for this Angus in the 1881 Census for Toremore, Kilmory, Argyll. FN0203564 554-0-7-0-10. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Just a note to say that it sounds like Mike Morrison had a more than wonderful trip to Bute. I wish I was there now to escape the horrid summer heat we have here in North Carolina. His report may inspire me to go looking for discount airfares. Linda Phillips (yes Peter, I know, go to the Argyll list!!! but I thought I would try here first since this is an Arran individual!)
Hi Linda In the so called "Argyll" entry, the Parish reference is "554" in both cases - this is the parish of Kilmory, Arran, so you ARE on the correct list, Tormore is an Arran place name - between the farms of Drumadoon and Machrie on the central west coast to be precise, and a stone's throw or two from Shiskine. The 7 in each refers to ED 7, and is the same as the ED7 listed way back in 1841: "so much of the parish as lies between Blackwater and Iorsa Water" Hope someone can help you with the 1891 info.
