I am delighted to announce the start of the Scotland part of the FreeGEN project. This is part of the wider FreeGEN project, incorporating FreeBMD and FreeCEN. The FreeGEN part aims to transcribe the Old Parish Registers – those dating from the 1500/1600s before formal state registration began. At the moment I am primarily looking for people who would like to co-ordinate the transcriptions for a county. You would need a microfiche/film reader, lots of patience and a sense of humour. You would recruit volunteers and keep note of what is sent out and sent back. If you don’t want to look after a county, but would like to be put on the list of volunteers for a particular place, then I will be happy to take your details.
