I have a Ann Anderson, age 14, born Arran, Isle of Bute shown in the 1861 census for Glasgow, Tradeston. Adults are shown as James Anderson & Isabel (Strahan). From there I would presume that these were Ann's parents. BUT, now I have found on the IGI Ann b. Sept. 22, 1846, Kilbride, Bute, with parents John Anderson & Isabella Strachan. Could John & James be the same, OR?? Thanks in advance.
Good Morning, There is a 2nd child born to John & Isabella in 1849 in Rothesay. Was the Census an index or the full entry? If index, it could be a miss translation. Why not buy her marriage certificate which would give you the answer? This is your primary proof to finding her parents. Don't forget that the Wee Free was active & many of these entries are not on the OPR's nor the IGI. Usually John & James aren't interchangeable. Bonnie B.
