He was supposed to have been a cadet of the Stuart of Bute family and later in his career may have been Governor of Hurst Castle in Hantshire, England. One of his sons, Robert Stuart (my ancestor) became a shipwright at the Royal Dockyard in Woolwich, Kent, England. The other son married into a family in Shropshire, England. Any information on Colonel Stuart or his son who went to Shropshire would be greatly appreciated.
