    3. Welcome to Phil Young who has joined this week. If you haven't already contributed, we hope to hear from you soon. ****** ****** ****** OK, the question last week was "What relation to me is my grand daughter's mother's mother-in-law" Solution 1 if the question is posed by a male and the grand daughter's mother is not his daughter, then the answer is "wife" 2 if the question is posed by a female and the grand daughter's mother is not her daughter, then the answer is "self" 3 irrespective of gender of questioner, if the grand daughter's mother is their daughter, then "no relation" FWIW the quiz answer was given as #3 So while we can sure of true blood relationships that go back to a common ancestor, then forward in time, we must be a lot more careful with any that jump forward to a common descendent then back in time. Nieces and nephews are another example of this need for caution - as they are often found as the informant in death entries, or as being resident during a census - but if the surname differs, which side are/were they on ? Can you give any interesting relationships from among your Bute ancestors? ****** ****** ****** NB - I haven't had time to visit this site, but there may be something there for you ...
