    2. I found a baptism on Scotlands people that could be my elusive James McCurdy It is in the OPR of Kingarth, 1754. The entry says James son of Robert McCurdy, tennant of Lergyain. Can anyone tell me what Lergyain is? Thanks, Sue Marcus

    3. Hi Sue, Nowadays it is a farm about a 1/2 mile south of Kingarth township on the road to Garroch Head, the southern end of the island. The current spelling is Largizean but it was spelt 7 different ways in the OPRs - I don't think it mattered to them greatly. In the 1750s it was likely to have been a farm settlement of several cottages clustered together as was common on the island. There were 19 births/baptisms recorded there between 1731 and 1770 to 11 different families - tenants, cottars and weavers - with birth dates overlapping so there were several families living there together over that period.
