++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Most of GENUKI is now back online at its real address http://www.genuki.org.uk/ but on a much smaller system so if it gets busy you may have to wait! I quote "our man on the spot", Phil Stringer: "I've now managed to recover nearly all the GENUKI files that are hosted here onto sentinel and am thus providing most of what we had before the incident. The bits that don't work are anything that requires cgi-scripts and database access. This includes the GENUKI gazetteer (nearby places links), the parish locater, 1891 census places and error reporting. These won't become available until the machine we normally use is back in commission. This loss of service is due to a serious break-in and theft of computer hardware at the University of Manchester on Thursday 17th August. It will be a "few days" before there is any clear indication of how long it will take to resume normal service." As the mirror copy of GENUKI hosted on the Oxon FHS site contained less of the pages than the temporary service now available from http://www.genuki.org.uk/, the mirror service from the Oxon FHS site has been discontinued.
