Very sorry - put CURRIE in the header of my previous posting, then forgot to include details. My great-grandfather's sister Mary HILL (born N Bute 1846) married John CURRIE a mason. One of the Currie children - Alexander? - is said to have been a journalist for the Buteman. This is intriguing because there are several journalists in our family today. If anyone has come across a journalist Currie on Bute in the late 18th/early 19th century I'd be very grateful if you would let me know. The late Donald Currie, who was editor of the Buteman until a few years ago, is no relation. Do any Bute residents remember Jane Currie who ran the post office at Port Bannatyne in, I think, the 1950s/60s? She was a daughter of John and Mary Currie, above.
