    1. Re: Death Certificate Reliability

    3. I would like to echo Peter's remarks on the liklihood there will be mistakes on death certificates. From my experience, I am beginning to think there are few certificates that are entirely correct. This past week I received the certificate for my aunt for which my mother, her sister, was the informant. She gave an incorrect middle initial for their father and the incorrect city for their mother's place of birth. My mother was also the informant on her mother's death certificate. She gave an incorrect first name for her mother's mother (but, this time, correctly gave her mother's place of birth.) Lest you think it was just my mother who made mistakes, my father was the informant on his father's death certificate and gave an incorrect name for his father's father. I'm sure many of you have had similar experiences and realize the information on these documents should be regarded as clues until further substantiated.
