Hello everyone, I'm taking advantage of the lull to repost my interests. HILL: My ggg-grandparents John HILL, cottar, and Mary TAYLOR were living at Tighaghaoil, North Bute, in 1808 when their son Archibald was born. I am 99 per cent certain that John and Mary came from Skipness, Kintyre. There was a lot of movement between Bute and Skipness - I'd be very interested to hear of other families doing the same. McFIE: Archibald Hill, farm labourer born Skipness, son of the Archibald above, married Jeanie McFIE at Kingarth in 1870. Jeanie's parents were John McFie, a hedger born c 1804, and Janet McKINLAY. Kingarth teeming with McFies, of course - it's very hard to sort them out. I'd love to hear from other McFies. John McFie's sister Eliza, born 1802, married John STUART at Kingarth. John and Eliza's parents were John McFIE, carter, and Mary SPENCE. McKINLAY: Janet McKINLAY, born c 1809, Kingarth, wife of John McFie, above, was the "reputed" daughter of Daniel McKinlay and Janet McFie. When I was in Edinburgh last year the relevant bit of the kirk session minutes that might have elaborated on the reputed bit was away for repair. Madeleine Wales
