While browsing the 1851 census for Shettleston, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, I came upon this: Elisabeth TURNBULL 19, unmarried, occupation "widow's daughter", b. Rothsay, Buteshire. She was listed as "visitor" at the home of Donald (63) & Margaret (50) CAMPBELL. Donald Campbell was "merchant in Glasgow" & had children Archibald (27) & Alexander (24) living at home. In addition there was one other visitor in the household, a 19 year old with the surname McRAE. I can't read his or her first name, but the occupation was listed as "clerk in merchant's office". There were also 4 servants. Elisabeth Turnbull was the only one born in Buteshire. Just passing this along in case anyone is looking for Turnbulls. Sue Marcus
