Good morning list I am chasing information about the family of John Spiers and his wife, Sarah Ralston. They married on 27 June 1837 and this marriage is listed in both Maybole (where she came from) and Kilmory. I am assuming he was a local boy. I believe they probably lived at Bennecarrigan. I have managed to pick a couple of births off the IGI and SKS was able to look up a couple of bodies born/died after 1855 in the Edinburgh records office. I have also taken a look at the 1881 census. Could anybody help me with 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 census information for the farm called Bennecarrigan? I also have a list of probable children and wonder if anybody could check the local registers for Kilmory and let me know if I have the right dates and parents? Mathew born 3 July 1838 Gavin born 29 October 1839 - he died in Australia on 5 September 1860 John born 24 November 1840 - he is listed as living at Bennecarrigan on the 1881 census Alexander born 31 May 1842 Sarah born 31 August 1843 (this is on the IGI) - visiting family in Ayrshire on the 1881 census Robert born 16 January 1845 - listed on the 1881 census Adam born sometime in 1846 - died 2 July 1855 aged 9 (I have a copy of the registered death) Helen born 17 October 1848 (this is on the IGI) William born 28 August 1850 - living in Barony on the 1881 census Henry born 1852 according to his age on the 1881 census Ralston born in 1854 according to his age on the 1881 census - he is living with his brother at Bennecarrigan Adam born 5 February 1857 (I have a copy of the birth registration) Any burials of members of this family would also be gratefully accepted. From what I can see on the IGI, there are other families called Spiers and although they may be related to John and I, at this time, really only interested in John, Sarah and their children. And I don't want to send anybody on a wild goose chase. Sarah Spiers (nee Ralston) died in 1875 in Glasgow and was listed as a widow but I don't know when her husband died. Here's hoping that someone can help me out or advise me where I could try next. Elizabeth Leicester, UK
