Hello, Madeleine, I think homesick Scots just made a habit of naming the places they settled in after their places in Scotland. In South Island NZ you find Ben Lomond, Glenorchy, Kinloch etc all round Queenstown and lots of Scottish names right through Central Otago and Southland. We still do it today.
