Welcome to Anne Toll and Donald Sillars who have joined this week. If you haven't already contributed, we hope to hear from you soon. ****** ****** ****** >From time to time subscribers post requests for look ups by that ever present mailing list identity "some kind soul" (usually referred to as SKS). Please remember these few Do's & Don'ts : Do : Find out what records are available first and what genealogical information they contain. Do : When making your request, include as much relevant information as possible - the more information you give both on the people you are interested in, and on the sources you have already checked, the easier it is for SKS to do your look up. Do : Where an inquiry is likely to lead to a number of alternative suggestions - replies should be sent off list. The original inquirer should post a summary of responses to the list once the flow dries up. Don't : Make requests related to "on the ground" investigation in "Bute" (inclusive of Arran and Cumbrae), as there are currently less than ten known subscribers based in Scotland, and by no means all of these are resident in "Bute". If an offer is made off list, as a result of something else you posted, fair enough. Don't : Make "blanket" requests. This is the partner to the second Do. There's nothing more likely to stop SKS from volunteering than a request such as: "Please could SKS find John Campbell in the 1841 census for Bute" ****** ****** ****** Feel free to join in and present your own items.
