In my own family on Bute, second forenames were not used until the 1870s and then in most cases family surnames were used. But the surname was not always that of the mother. I have found paternal grandmother and great grandmother used as well. /cheers Pat -----Original Message----- From: Jeri <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: 14 June 2000 20:24 Subject: naming patterns >I thought I'd add a little on the naming patterns for whatever it is worth! >Here in the states I have found many times where the mother or maybe I >should say the maternal maiden names were used in middle names for >girls/boys.
