The 1837 Directory of Rothesay and Port Bannatyne lists a firm of fish curers - Baxter & Carwell, Port Bannatyne. If anyone knows anything more about this firm I would be glad to hear from them. My BAXTERs were all settled around Port Bannatyne and both Archibald b. 1783 and Duncan b.1797 were fishermen. I wonder if they were connected to the curers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
