Hello Everyone, I haven't posted for a while but I'm still out here freezing in Ontario, Canada. Hope you're all well. Has anyone been researching the NICOL/NICOLL/NICKEL/McNICOL surname in Buteshire and particularily any branch living in Arran? I wondered if someone would have any clues relating to my new information. I just received the OPR extract for the marriage of my 4X great grandparents, Thomas McNISH/McNEISH and Jane "Jean" NICOL/NICOLL. I knew I wouldn't get the names of their parents from the OPR but I wanted the parishes to which they'd each belonged at the time of their marriage in Paisley, Renfrewshire in 1790. At the very least, their eldest son, Alexander McNISH/McNEISH, and his family lived in Lamlash, Kilbride, Arran from sometime before 1841 but, I've long had the notion that the family connection with Bute began before that even and, my gosh, I wasn't far off the mark on that hunch. The marriage/banns record of 12 June, 1790 Paisley, High Church Parish, Renfrew states: "Thomas McNISH, weaver, in the High Church Parish and Jean NICOLL in Kilbride Parish in Arran" So, Jane "Jean" NICOL/NICOLL came from Kilbride in Arran but the burning question now is where does she fit in with the others by that surname who were known to be in Buteshire and on Arran at the time? Can anyone help? Kind Regards, Pat http://www.mccabeclan.com/mcneish.htm
