    3. Betty, Sorry but I can't tell you anything about Mount Pleasant House but a certain amount about the neighbourhood may be inferred from the census. The enumerator in district 19 seems to have travelled up Castle street, done Bishop street then Mount pleasant road then Bishop terrace. The majority of Castle street heads-of-households were self employed merchants, sea captains etc while Mount Pleasant Road/ Bishop terrace had more white collar workers. Within a few houses there was John Gillies, the town clerk(Lily Bank House), the Revd. Robert Craig's manse,(Free Church minister), a banker, a writer(solicitor) and a bunch of clerical workers. On the strength of that I think it reasonable to presume it was a comfortable, middle class neighbourhood - well that's the way it appears to me, I could be way off beam. Bill
