    3. A belated welcome to "stewarcq", Juvanne, and "skyland2" who joined in the last two weeks, but some glitch meant I did not get notified by the RootsWeb mail program. Welcome also to donal who has joined us this week. If you haven't already contributed, we hope to hear from you soon. ****** ****** ****** From another list on the value of posting all replies to the list (excluding personal or "thank you" only messages) ... "One of the joys of the lists is the way that you can pick up information you would never have dreamed existed - simply by being able to follow the conversations which pass between members. If replies go only to individuals, we actually lose much of the list's real value." ****** ****** ****** Obliquely continuing on the theme of what you can pick up from a list - one item that shouldn't be forwarded to the list is virus warnings. These should always be forwarded to the list maintainer in the first instance - if necessary, the message can be passed on to the list under a suitable title. Reason for the reminder - the "Budweiser frogs" hoax has resurfaced - for new members this hoax "virus warning" has been around since 1997. At the risk of boring the old hands, rules for anti virus protection: 1 invest in and use a reliable anti-virus package 2 keep it up to date (recommended minimum of monthly updates) Check the list archives for more on this subject - go to http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Enter the name of the list - in this case ButeshireGenWeb-L, then follow the prompts at the next screen, you will have to choose a year. ****** ****** ****** While not universal standards, the following have been suggested as useful guides to some of the place name prefixes to entries in the Scottish OPR's ... "at" - lodging/boarding there or servant/visitor "in" - residing there or minor tenant "of" - born there or main tenant Comments ? ****** ****** ****** Feel free to join in and present your own items. Peter Cook [email protected] List maintainer and Co-host with Barbara < [email protected] > of the ButeshireGenWeb mailing list.
