    2. But the censuses are not available on-line. You need to go to an LDS centre and hire the film to look at there. Irene

    3. My gt gt grandfather Rev Campbell Brown Jamieson was born Nov 1823 in co Cavan, N Ireland. His father was James Jamieson, manager of a bank in Cootehill, co Cavan, and his mother was probably Mary Brown. Recently I found, through Rootsweb, some cousins descended from one of his sons (I am descended from his eldest daughter) who mentioned in passing that the family probably came from Bute, which would have been at the end of the 18th Century (there are no Jamiesons on record in Cavan before that time). This recent spate of Campbell + Jamieson messages prompts me to put down a marker for any Campbell Jamieson who might be a grandfather of Revd C.B. - born about 1760-1770, probably. Jennie

    3. Have not been in for a while as have been away, so have been catching up with all, but I would dearly like some info. on my Campbell family if possible. Gt.gt. grandad John Campbell and wife Elizabeth Jamieson came to N.Z. in 1862 with 5 children. I found them on the 1851 census in Rothesay and John was an employer of 35 men. Why did he give up his job? John had and older sister Janet who marr. Daniel Duncan in 1847 - don't think they had any children, but don't know! Also don't know when or where they died or buried. John and Janet's parents were Archibald Campbell / Margaret McKirdy married Jan.1803. Janet born Nov. 1803 - John born 1808, no other children. Both parents were deceased on John's marr. in1842 and Janet's. Margaret buried Rothesay kirkyard but don't know where Archibald got to at all. He was quoted in 1847 as being a carpenter in Greenock. Could he have died there -- also don't know where he was born or came from?? Any info appreciated. Elizabeth Jamieson's parents were James and Jane Jamieson - nee Barbour. Can't find their marriage anywhere - but Elizabeth was eldest child of 8 children, born in 1816 in Kingarth. Also I believe Jane came from Cumbrae but don't know where she was born or who her parents are. The Jamieson's were on the farm of Ambrismore, and I believe there were Jamieson's on this farm -- descendants of Elizabeth's brother John until about the mid 1900's. Called Ian and George Jamieson. Any info. on this family, would be great thanks. Dawn in N.Z. nee Campbell.

"Re: James McCurdy, b. 1706" ****** ****** ****** Scots Origins New Data - 6 August 2001 Origins.net (http://www.origins.net) are pleased to announce the addition of major new data to their Scots Origins service; namely the 1881 census for Scotland and digitised images of the 1891 census. 1881 Census Unlike the 1891 census, the nearly 4 million records in the 1881 census on Scots Origins show the full transcript from the source document, not merely index data. This means that the Scots Origins users will have more information at hand when they are searching the census, and more fields will be searchable. A major difference from the 1891 census index, is the facility automatically to be able to view the records for all members of the same household. A free text search facility on place names will be available later in 2001, as will a facility to search on birthplace. The 1881 British census was transcribed by a team of volunteers from various family history societies, led by the Genealogical Society of Utah (GSU). The GSU provided the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) with the Scottish part of the census, which has led to the GROS allowing EXCLUSIVE internet access via Scots Origins. 1891 Census Images Scotland is the first country in the world to provide to provide fully indexed online access to census records. The availability of the 1891 census images is a major enhancement to the previous Scots Origins service. It is the first stage in the GROS’s project to digitise all of its birth, marriage, and deaths registers and census returns. The 1891 census returns comprise over 260,000 images, and access to the Scots Origins database is by credit or debit card, via a secure payment system. The fee of £6 (approx $8.50) for a 24-hour session purchases 30 “credits”. To view a census image costs 5 credits while to view the index records costs 1 credit per page of up to 15 records. Actual places of birth and occupations unknown. Maiden name of Jean BLAIR also unknown at this stage. Dear Jennie and fellow list members, While I do not know if my BANNATYNE/BALLANTINE ancestors from Bute are connected to the BLAIR family, I would be very interested to know if my ancestors are mentioned in the "Kilmory Parish Book" and how to obtain any listing (Tax lists, landowners, anything). While my immigrant ancestor, William Ballantine, came to Boston, Mass. Bay Colony, ca. 1650, Bannatynes were in Bute (Kames, Port Bannatyne and surrounding areas) from the 13th C. to the 20th C. William seems to have entered the Colonies under mysterious circum- stances and I have not been able to trace his parentage or his real place of residence in Scotland. It has been suggested that he was connected to Hectctor Bannatyne. The spelling of his name is also strange; it is anglicized and not commonly used in Scotland for another several hundred years. Any help with my brick wall would be gratefully recieved. Thanks in advance, Daphne Jacob
