    3. Welcome to "CARLALISULLIVAN" who has joined this week. If you haven't already contributed, we hope to hear from you soon. ****** ****** ****** Ruth Enns was only with us just long enough mid week, to post her query and receive Irene's research results which indicated that the Rothesay Graham/Graim Baillie was female. Ruth has now moved on to search other avenues for her Graham Baillie. Nice peice of detective work Irene. This little episode reminds us all that we should be careful to look at all evidence with care, and certainly where we find an apparent incorrect sex or name spelling, dig deeper into the available resources, before 'altering' the evidence. Over the years that I have been researching, I have seen a number of family trees where the sex and spelling of the name of an alleged ancestor has been altered to "fit" the later evidence. While we all like to demolish those 'brick walls', it has to be done with the weight of the evidence, and not by undermining ! Remember too that while the IGI is a great tool, a lot of the submitted information in it contains such errors. ****** ****** ****** Feel free to join in and present your own items. 1. Light dawns on Graham Baillie
    2. I've just looked up the MIs for Millport and found a stone erected by Thomas Baillie (the father of Graham Baillie) to his mother in law, GRAIM Blair and his father in law John Snodgrass. So Graham Baillie b 1843 is definitely female and is not likely to have been marrying Jane McKenzie in 1875 in Lanark, I'm afraid. Irene

In the LDS OPR index it says Graham born 19 Sept 1843 (baptised 12 Nov) a DAUGHTER to Thomas Baillie and Margaret Snodgrass. And to my surprise the 1851 census has got Graham Baillie aged 8 DAUGHTER of TB and MS. Now I could take the baptism as a mistake by the clerk but not both ..this Graham seems to be female. However what do you have that suggests Graham married your great aunt in 1875? I can find no Graham born 1843 in Bute in the 1881 census. How old was your Jane in 1881 and do you think she was still in Scotland at this point? I'm really intrigued <g> Irene

    2. Bill McKinlay
    3. Hi folks, Many thanks for the responses to my query. My reason for believing that Lerggen was a locality in Kingarth parish was due to its occurring in a page of births and baptisms there for 1733. It does not exclude of course the possibility that the family may have been new arrivals from elsewhere and that might account for the lack of a local marriage record for the father. The following are the names of births on this particular page. If they happen to correspond with anyone you are investigating, please let me know and I will send full details. August - October 1733 John MacCurdy - Lubas Robert MacCurdy - Lubas Donald MacConachy - Kerrimenochy James Frazer - Kerritolay Margaret Frazer - mure Butt of Mikle Kilcatton James MacCaw - Lerggen Patrick Martin - Ardinho Alex MacPerson - uper kelspog James MacCurdy - Butt Knock na knnab Elizabeth Cunningham - Kerrimenock Stewart Neill MacCouk - Bruchog Cheers Bill

    3. Would anyone have come across a locality by the name of Lerggen in their investigations? I have it from an OPR from Kingarth parish - 1733 - but it doesn't show up in any maps or abandoned farm settlements that I can find so it possibly isn't on Bute but being a birth record it seems odd that it would not be. Thanks Bill

    3. Hello everyone, Could SKS who has access to the marriage records for Kingarth, 14 March 1850, please tell me what is listed for the marriage of Duncan MILLAR and Isabella McLEAN? I am hoping that Isabella is my "missing" Isabella, the daughter of Allan McLEAN/MACLEAN and Janet nee BLACK. The rest of the family came to Victoria, Australia in 1853, but Isabella did not. I think that this Isabella and Duncan moved to Glasgow before 1852. Any help would be very much appreciated. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SeC.2ACI/439 Message Board Post: Marie Louise Lafond, born on June 27, 1890 somewhere in France, married Camille Desiré Carrié on July 4, 1908, in Paris. Camille Desiré, born on August 7, 1886, was a well-known Parisian baritone who at times sang together (duet) with the great Carusso in opera houses, including Rouen, Trouville, and the Trocadero of Paris. Marie Louise also enjoyed show business. As a vaudeville showgirl, she sang and danced, often with her talented mother, Louise Lafond (born in 1872), in the Paris Opera Chorus and other places, including Rome, Vienna, and Moscow. Camille Desiré and Marie Louise had a son, Marc Camille (my father, still living and active at 92), born in Nantes-sur-Seine, Paris, on July 12, 1909, who grew up mainly in his uncle's household in Paris since his parents spent most of the time on the road, performing in numerous theaters. Camille later married Madame Blancheville. He drank too much and died young in misery. Marie Louise's end is unknown. So is Madame Blancheville's. Camille Desiré's father was Achille Carrié, the successful treasurer and director of an insurance company founded by his father in Paris. Achille's father (and mother) were from the South of France. They owned vineyards in the vicinity of Vergèze, near Nimes, which later they sold in order to move to Paris. These vineyards, research by Marc shows, later turned out to be the Perrier water site. Camille Desiré's mother was Fernande Joly, a school teacher who eventually became school director. She came from the north of France (possibly Lille, near the Belgian border) together with 3 sisters (Henriette and Raizon, among them) and 2 brothers (Nestor, one of them). She may have ancestors from England, Scotland, or Canada. Fernande died at age 60. Born in Ales (Gard), France, on August 5, 1939, I (one of Marc's two sons, the other being Louis) emigrated to Venezuela, South America, in 1949, where I lived until 1959. Then, I emigrated to the United States and in time became a U.S. citizen, settling in Los Angeles. I got to meet both my father's mother and grandmother (Marie Louise and Louise Lafond) once, just the day before I left France, and only for a few minutes. I was 10 years old. Marie Louise was already near 60, her mother near 80. They both looked good, though - physically and spiritually! For now, I would like to have leads connecting to Marie Louise (my grandmother) and her mother Louise [Lafond]. Who were their parents? Who was Louise's husband? Did she ever marry? Also, if possible, leads to Fernande [Joly], Achille [Carrié], and Madame Blancheville (whom I know nothing about). Any info related to my grandfather Camille Desiré (Marie Louise's husband) would also be appreciated. Jacques Carrié P.S. The following notes may interest you: 1. I stopped going to French schools at age 10, when I left the country, so please bear with me if I sometimes misspell a French word. 2. Nestor Joly, brother of Fernande, had a daughter, Charlotte, who married someone in the Longuet family. Some tips suggest they may have lived some years in London, England, and some years possibly in Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. They had a son, who, according to my father (Marc Carrié), very likely is the father of Gerard Longuet, a cultured Frenchman possibly living in the north of France today. I'm still in the process of researching these last details. Maybe someone with pertinent info can add some input here. That would be greatly appreciated. 3. I almost forgot to mention that the Family Carrié extends to Varilhes, a historical village of about 3000 people located about half way between Pamiers and Foix (Ariège), some 70 Km south of Toulouse. I used to live in Toulouse when I was a kid, but I never suspected there was an avenue in Varilhes called Avenue Jacques Carrié, my own name, something I found out only recently. This Jacques Carrié must have been a very important person to have an avenue named after him. I'm not jealous, only curious. After all, the Carrié line, I've been told, is a rather short one. Or am I wrong? Who was this Jacques Carrié? Anybody knows? How does it connect to the Carrié line? Thanks.
