    3. Sandy, Does your Butcher information contain anything about a William Butcher who was in the 1840 and 1850 census in Decatur Co IN? His wife was gone by the 1850 census but still at home were children Margaret R, Catherine, William and Eliza Jane. From the 1840 census I think there may have been an older son Moses, and two other daughters. The death certificate for Margaret (my GGrandmother who married James H. Ray in Decatur Co and homesteaded in Bourbon Co KS) stated her mother was Christena Hildebrand. The closest we can come to a marriage is a William Butcher married a Christena Abernathy in Switzerland Co IN, and we find a court allowance in Decatur Co to a William Butcher for money for a Phoebe Abernathy--which could mean the marriage of William Butcher and Christena Abernathy could be a second marriage for Christena. There is a marker in Mt. Carmel Cem in Decatur Co which states--Wm. Butcher, US Soldier, War of 1812. The county history says he was in the Battle of River Raisen, but I haven't been able to find any military record that matches. Any help appreciated. Marian
