As a long time "lurker" on this list, may I respond to the request for a roll call? My nearest Butcher ancestor is Matilda Butcher born at Lawshall in Suffolk in about 1822. Her father was James Butcher who became a Greenwich Pensioner (Greenwich Pensioners had all served in the Royal navy. James lost an arm serving in the Royal Marines in the Napoleonic Wars.). James Butcher was married to Ann Stannard. James was born on 4/10/1789 at Lawshall and died there in 1861. James other children included Marianne (baptised at Colchester in 1811); James (buried at Lawshall aged 20 in 1836); Edith (baptised at Lawshall 1819); William; Ellen; Charles and George, and possibly Louisa. James had a sister called Sarah (born Lawshall 1787 and died there 1793). Their parents were Thomas Butcher (1753-1837) and Lucy Farrow (born 1766 at Shimpling in Suffolk).
