Warwick BUTCHER is my elusive Butcher, he was my 3rd great grandfather Warwick BUTCHER was born Nov. 6, 1819 he died Dec.3, 1864 . He married Mary Margaret Dilley b. Oct. 20, 1829 d. Jan 13, 1919 d/o Isaac DILLEY and Rachel MURPHY May, 8, 1845. The Butchers had nine children: 1. John McClung b. Jan 15, 1846 Nicolas Co. Va(WV) 2. William Morgan b. Jan 3., 1848 3. Thomas Franklin b. April 15, 1850 4. Isaac Scott b. Sept. 1, 1852 5. infant son b. 1854 6. James Henry b. March 21, 1856 7. Adam Irving b. Aug 5, 1858 8. Rachel Madora b. Feb 12, 1861 9. George Warwick b. Dec 23, 1863 Warwick BUTCHER enlisted in the Confederate Army at Frankfort VA on March 3, 1863 in Co. C. 19 th VA Calvary CSA. He was captured in Nicolas Co. Va on July 29, 1863 and taken to the Antheneum Prison as a POW, arrriving on Sept.13, 1863. He was described as age 44, 5'10" tall, with dark hair and whiskers and blue eyes. He was listed as a blacksmth. On Sep 17, 1863 he was transferred to Camp Chase at Columbus, OH and again transferred on Jan 14, 1864 to Rock Island Prison, Rock Island Illinois. He died of tuberculosis on Dec. 3, 1864. He was buried in grave #1637 in the Rock Island Prison Camp Cemetary. He never saw his youngest son who was born after he went to war.
