Hi - My elusive Butcher is any family of Jemima Butcher b. 20 Oct 1797, Virginia (or maybe WV?) Jemima's mother died when or just after Jemima was born. Jemima's uncle and aunt took her to raise. When Jemima was four, her father sent word that he had remarried and was coming to Virginia for his child. Uncle and Aunt packed up and moved to Tennessee. Jemima was married to Luke Standifer 15 Jan 1815 in Tennessee. They farmed in Marion County, Tennessee until 1830 when they moved to Arkansas. Farmed there until 1851 when Luke, Jemima and four of their children traveled to Oregon by wagon train, settling in Lane County, Oregon. Luke died there in 1857 and Jemima died in Umatilla County, Oregon 1 Feb 1879. Problem is-- was Jemima's father a Butcher or was that the name of Uncle and Aunt?
