David, I believe that the first Boucher in the Dutch Colony is Simon Boucher. He went to Amsterdam, Netherlands, from France, to sail to New Amsterdam, Nieuw Netherland (now New York City, NY) where he arrived the same year, 1658, with my ancestor Willem Van Vredenburgh. Simon Boucher settled in Claverack, near Albany, New York. He came as a bachelor and his fare was paid by another French Huguenot. http://www.familysearch,com shows Johannes Boucher, who was baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church in Claverack, Columbia, New York, on 8 Nov 1795, and John Boucher, who was baptized in the same church as above on 2 Oct 1803, as direct descendants of the emigrant Simon Boucher. Ten years later on 17 July 1668 an Anne Boutcher marrying a Vincent Ronignon in Piscataway, NJ. Source: Register of The National Huguenot Society, p.217. If my ancestor John Boutcher / Boucher purchased land in Philadelphia in 1694, does it mean that he arrived in America the same year he purchased the land? If so, I will search for the name of a ship in 1694 in the Library of Congress. Regards, Jean Boutcher -
