Am searching for any information on Jemima Butcher b. 20 Oct 1797, Virginia. Family history or legend says that Jemima's mother died when Jemima was born. Jemima's uncle and aunt took her to raise. When Jemima was four, her father sent word that he had remarried and was coming to Virginia for his child. Uncle and Aunt packed up and moved to Tennessee. Jemima Butcher married Luke Standifer on 15 Jan 1815 in Tennessee. They farmed in Marion County, Tennessee until 1830 when they moved to Arkansas. In 1851, Luke, Jemima and four of their children traveled to Oregon by wagon train, settling in Lane County, Oregon. Luke died there in 1863 and Jemima died in Umatilla County, Oregon 1 Feb 1879. Any information on her parents or Aunt and Uncle would be most appreciated. Martha Glasscock mglasscock@nwinfo.net

Dear Mike Thomas, I am a descendant of Warwick Butcher born 1819 and I have some information of who he married Mary Margaret Dilley and that he may have had a brother Thomas Butcher born in 1823 it seems that Thomas married a Susan Dilley who surely was Mary Margaret Dilleys sister. Then not sure but a sister Nancy Butcher. I can find nothing of their parents so you see I am not as far back as your research has you. I have a good bit of information on the large family Warwick and Mary had down to my generation. Warwick was a blacksmith and enlisted in Frankfort, Va (WV) to fight in the civil war. He was captured and taken to a prison camp and died there. Would you have any information in your files about these people Thank you Lola Butcher Given gsb00979@mail.wvnet.edu -----Original Message----- From: Michael Henry Thomas <Niamh@thomas5426.freeserve.co.uk> To: BUTCHER-L@rootsweb.com <BUTCHER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, February 28, 1999 7:40 PM Subject: Butcher or Boutcher? >Hello there! > >New to list and wondering whether I am in the right place. Hello there! New to list and wondering whether I am in the right place. We've just discovered that our family tree contains a 'Boutcher'. Could somebody out there tell us whether there are any research results that show there is a link between this name and the surname Butcher? I'm particularly interested in a Jemima Boutcher from. Ludlow, Shropshire c. 1820. Interestingly I believe that her sisters Emma and Elizabeth were in service in Ledbury. Their names were enumerated as Butcher in the 1851 census whilst staying with her in Brecon. Many thanks - Mike Thomas - Helston - Cornwall - UK
