Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3EH.2ACIB/57 Message Board Post: Hi James, I couldn't help notice the simularities in our research, I have a Stanley Bushman that married a Cora Doty , and had a child named Lenora Ann Bushman who married a Charles freeman Campbell. I know Lenora Ann Bushman was born 10-03-1890 in Herndon Guthrie County,Iowa, and died In Jefferson County Iowa, Could this be a connection? As I am trying to research the Bushman line without much luck.

    1. Re: Bushman surname (Henry S.)
    2. I do believe you are probably correct in that copies made of copies perpetuate errors. I looked and looked in Cayuga Co. for years for Bushman information (of which there is some) only to realize last year that in 1810 part of it became Seneca County and in 1820 the lower half became Tompkins County. Rensslaer County is way east however so don't have an answer for that. Thanks for the information, it does open up new doors to research through. jcard20983@aol.com

    1. Re: Bushman surname (Henry S.)
    2. The Lany Bushman that I am referring to was born abt 1811 in So. Byron, Gennessee Co. NY. married John P. Burghduff 31 Dec 1829 in Fleming, Cayuga Co. NY and died 13 Aug 1846 in Elkhorn Grove Carrol Co. IL. She is buried in the South Elkhorn Methodist Cem. I have seen the entry for the Lany married to Jacob B. Burghduff somewhere in the LDS data but I don't know what to make of it. It doesn't match up to either of the Jacobs that I know about. A note on the founding of Westbury. All of the history books and the historical marker erected by the state of NY agree on the 1806 date. Then, why does the census list all of the principals as living in Rensselear Co in 1810? I don't know the answer to that. I think they all copied from each other. Cliff and Dotti Dineen - Houston

    1. Re: Bushman surname (Henry S.)
    2. Thanks for that wonderful informative reply. I believe the mother Lany, Barbara Bushman, died in Westbury but I have no concrete information. Might you have records that show this information or know a source? My records show Lany (b. 1796) married to Jacob B. Burghduff on 31 Dec 1839. I have not researched the Burghduff lines, but will add your information. My lines descends from Lany's brother, David, father of Henry S. and down through Henry's brother Joseph Robert Bushman.

    1. Re: Bushman surname (Henry S.)
    2. From Wolcott, New York, Old and New: William and Betsey Burghduff and brother, Jacob, and families were the first settlers of Westbury, New York, in 1806. They came to Victory, Cayuga County with brothers, Conrad and Philip, and sisters, Mrs. Ebenezer Smith and Mrs. Philip Wendover, and their families. They came from Auburn by marked trees, the county at that time was an almost unbroken wilderness. Their outfit was transported by two ox teams. The Burghduffs of Wayne and Cayuga NY come from these 4 men. It is usually difficult to tell which one, very little direct information is available but I THINK that I have to correct information for the two Lavinas. Lavina Marie Burghduff born 28 Jul 1847 in Wayne Co. NY and married to Oscar Wilcox is the daughter of Isaac Levi Burghduff and Malinda Marie Dow and the granddaughter of William Burghduff and Betsey Barton (as above) . Lavina Burghduff born abt 1828 in NY and married to Henry S Bushman is the daughter of John P. Burghduff and an unknown mother and the granddaughter of Phillip Burghduff (as above) and Tamar Hadden. And just to show what a small world it was, John P.'s 2nd wife was Lany Bushman. Cliff and Dotti Dineen

    2. Thanks for the response. I think you are probably on the right track, a niece or another close relative. Should you learn anything about Lovina's parent I would appreciate hearing from you. Again, thanks. Susie

    1. Re: Bushman surname (Henry S.)
    2. It is certainly possible that the two Lovina's are related. Becaurse of the difference in birth years, I would suspect that the later would be a niece, maybe, the daughter of a brother, maybe. I do know that Henry S. and Lovina Burghduff Bushman moved to Illinois in 1845.
