Strange Words and Terms You may have come across words like adventurer, Planter, Pale, townland, Brehon and other strange-sounding names during your research of Irish ancestors and wondered what they meant. A new page to be added to my website shortly should provide some help if you would like to know the meaning of those strange words you encounter from time to time: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ireland/glossary.htm

    3. As a general rule NEVER download a file with an EXE extension (i.e. pretty park.EXE). One sure and easy way for a virus to enter your computer is through an executable program. It's never worth the 10-15 seconds of amusement you may recieve from a downloaded file to risk destroying your computer. Remember that some viruses have NOT been defined by your virus scan software and therefore render it useless. JUST SAY NO TO DOWNLOADS. Dave Hess NOTE: Excellent advice, I think. Subscribers are urged NOT to post any file with an EXE extension to the list, or to open such files that might be posted. List Adm. John Caughey

    1. Norm Johnston
    2. My name is Norm Johnston, I live in Canberra, Australia. I am trying to track down a Richard Bushell who was transported as a convict from England to Sydney, NSW, in 1834/1835. He was tried in the Gloucester Azzizes on 29 Mar 1834. He had been an engineer's apprentice. If this is the person I am looking for he changed his name to Bushnell in about 1846. His death certificate says his father's name was Isaac Bushnell (but I suspect that should be Bushell) and his mother's name was Edith Martin. His death certificate says he was born in Bristol (which is in Gloucestershire) and the year would have been about 1816. Any assistance would be appreciated Norm Researching: MACCARTHY (all states); BUSHNELL, LANDELLS, PATTERSON, LAY, GAW (Qld); MUDDLE (NSW, Qld); PARNELL, STANTON, HARRADINE (NSW); JOHNSTON (NSW, Vic); ROSS, CLEELAND (Vic) ____________________________________________ Norm Johnston PO Box 29 Rivett ACT 2611 (02) 62880379 ____________________________________________________________________ Postal Address Home Address -------------- ------------ N.A.Johnston N.A.Johnston PO Box 29 15 Rapanea St Rivett Rivett ACT 2611 ACT 2611 Australia Australia Ph +61 2 62880379
