His birth, 20 Nov 1808, and death, 3 Jan 1885, are from the parish records; as is his marriage to Harriet Down 8 Nov 1841 with his sister, Lydia Bushell Moon as witness. Their father, Edward Bushell did marry Jane Knock. Perhaps the census records of Stalisfield might help. Lydia Bushell is my ancestor. I'd like to hear more from you if you have additioonal information. Dorothy dortr1@juno.com

The Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild has done an amazing job in locating lists from all over the world. Their site located at http://istg.rootsweb.com/index.1 is superb. It seems there are 28,000 lists for consultation. There are about 40 lists for Glasgow, and even an 1848 listing for for the island of South Uist, in Scotland. It seems that the database is searchable by surname; surely worth a try?

I am a direct decendant of Molly Bushell, daughter of William Bushell (born 1909 in Liverpool - died 1971 in Altrincham) who was her great-grandson. I guess Tom Bushell might be a fairly close relative - lots of Toms in our family too. I saw his address on the web page but wonder if it's OK to use it unsolicited. Any ideas about the Australian flying machines?

Molly Bushell was my father's great-grandmother. He always referred to her as the lady in the crinoline featured on the lid of the Everton Toffee tin. The recipe was sold to Nobletts after she died and I have tried in vain to track it down to its current source of supply. Molly is often a familiar name for Margaret but I don't know whether that's true in our case. Doug Bushell's dates and information concur with mine. There was until recently a brand of sweets produced by Cadbury in Australia. I have also seen the name Molly Bushell associated with Australian flying machines / airmen but don't know why. Cadbury UK were unable to help me further.
Found this message from a Carol Baetsen on the genoforum list for the Bushell family. Thought it sounded like your Sidney. Liane Walter Bushell b. early 1800's in England married Caroline Cornish. They had 3 children, Walter George William Bushell and twin sister b. 1881 and brother Sidney Bushell. Walter George left England in 1911 and came to Canada. Settled evenually in Weston Ontario. He was a valet in the army stationed in North Africa and India. Took part in Queen Victoria's funeral. Sidney lived in Australia I think. Looking for any info on Walter Bushell and his wife Caroline Cornish i.e. birthdate, parents etc. Any decendents of Sidney Bushell would be helpful as you may have info I don't have. Thanks

He died on 5 Sept 1885 in Polk, Macoupin Co., Illinois. Based on the birth of their first recorded child, he married Margaret Neylon/Naylon prior to 1860. Margaret was born between 1833-1844 in County Clare, Ireland and died 14 Nov 1910 in Kirkwood, St. Louis County, Missouri. According to Margaret’s death certificate, her parents were Stephen Neylon and Mary Custy, both born in Ireland. It is not known when John Bushell and Margaret Neylon immigrated to the USA, but they were in Illinois, probably Macoupin County, by 1860. They lived in Plainview, Macoupin, Illinois per the 1870 census and in Polk, Macoupin, Illinois per the 1880 census. They are both buried in St. Denis Cemetery, Shipman, Macoupin Co., Illinois. The children of John Bushell and Margaret Neylon/Naylon were: -Mary Theresa Bushell born about 1860/61 in Illinois, probably Plainview, Macoupin Co. She married William Lyons on 8 Aug 1882; his parents are Thomas Lyons and Mary McDevitt. No further information. -Patrick Bushell born about 1864 in Illinois, probably Plainview, Macoupin Co. He was living in Kirkwood, St. Louis County, Mo. in 1910. No further information. -Katherine “Kate” Bushell born about 1866 in Illinois, probably Plainview, Macoupin Co., and died 14 Nov 1945 in Kirkwood, St. Louis County, Mo. She married John Patrick Lynch on 21 Dec 1893 in Venice, Madison County, Illinois; his parents were James Lynch and Rose Reilly. -Margaret “Maggie” Bushell born in February 1868 in Illinois, probably Plainview, Macoupin Co., and died on 4 Aug 1908 in Venice, Madison, Illinois. She married Charles Thomas Phayer on 21 May 1889 in Shipman, Macoupin County, Illinois; his parents were Joseph D. Phayer and Mary Murphy. -Bridget “Birdie” Bushell born about 1870 in Illinois and it is unknown when she died. She married ____McCarthy after 1893 (marriage date of Katherine Bushell) and moved to Kansas City, Missouri. She was widowed early. Her daughter, Madeline McCarthy, married Dean Neimoyer. -Agnes Bushell born 21 Jan 1874 in Illinois. She died 12 Apr 1952 in Venice, Madison Co., Illinois. She married Michael A. Clifford on 4 Oct 1892 in Macoupin County, Illinois. Michael Clifford was born in April of 1861 in Venice, Madison County, Illinois and died on 29 Sept 1927 in Venice, Madison County, Illinois. His mother’s name was Hanora; father’s first name is unknown. Additional notes: -There is a Patrick and Bridgett Bushell in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Macoupin County, Illinois census. In 1870, the John and Patrick Bushell families were living next door to one another in Plainview; in 1880, there were in the same town of Polk. Because of the proximity, it is believed (but not proven) that John and Patrick Bushell are brothers. The naming patterns of their children are also very similar. -Patrick and Bridgett Bushell are also buried in St. Denis Cemetery, Shipman, Macoupin Co., Illinois. Patrick’s monument inscription says that he was born in County Clare. Close by in this small cemetery is another monument for Bridget, wife of John Dolin, who was in born in Dysart (the correct spelling might be Dysert) Parish, County Clare, Ireland. She died on 9 June 1886 at the age of 65. -Other names that are found in records associated with the family plots in St. Denis Cemetery, Shipman, Macoupin Co., Illinois are John Naylon, Martin Neylon and Bridget Neylon. The names of W. Foster and Margarete Foster are also found, but have no information about Fosters. If you have any interest in or any additional information about this family, please contact me.
