Hi Eileen, I love it when the computer is hopping and all us cousins are in touch again. My Aunt Dorothy told me once that when her grandparents Michael and Katharina Busch arrived by ship from Austria they were all so happy to make it safely that they dressed up in their Spring clothes and had a wedding. They arrived in Canada in 1900. I think Michael and Katharina must have had family already here that they were in touch with and who were getting married. They show up in Gretna, Manitoba in the 1901 Census. I just noticed that my email address is listed incorrectly, probably my mistake. It should read eileens18@cogeco.ca Sorry for any inconvenience. About the late 1800's a man would come over and then send for a bride, sometimes one that he new and other times it was an arranged marriage. One of my ancestors came over to Canada only to find out that the man she was supposed to marry had married someone else due to an unexpected event.
