My gr-gr-grandfather's sister, Anna Maria "Emma" Schmitz married Peter Busch, probably in Lorain County, Ohio about 1870. I think Peter must have been born about 1848, somewhere in Prussia. And I think his father was John Busch who appears in the 1870 and 1880 census living in Russia Township, Lorain County, Ohio, living with his son-in-law and daughter, Michael and Emma Emmerich. Does anyone know more about this family? Where did they come from in Prussia? Schmitzes came from Illerich and probably also from Landkern. There is a younger John "Bush" (age 24) living in Amherst Township, Lorain County in 1870. Judging from the census record, he and his wife Catherine were married in Prussia before they came to America and must have come about 1866. There is also a Nicholas Smith, age 18 and born in Ohio, in the household. I'm trying to figure out how and if this Nicholas is related to my Schmitz family. I just found out about another relative in England who was a professional hockey player, had an affair and the result was baby. He came back to Canada and left his responsibilities there. In 1880 they were living in Amherst, Lorain Co., Ohio. Peter worked in the quarry. At the time of the census they had 5 children, Catherine, Stephen, Nicholas, Mary, and Peter. Later in 1880 another child was born, Anna J. I think Catherine married John Dolezall, Stephen married Sophie Oberacker, Nicholas married Julia Dvorak, Peter P. married Mary Hanley, Anna J. married Fred Bauer. Anna Bauer died in Akron but the others were in Cuyahoga Co. Anyone else researching this family? I'm descended from Emma Schmitz's brother Stephen.
