I am still searching for my gr grandparent Arkie Busby. She was listed in the 1880 Prairie, AR, AR census Family History Library film 1254038, NA Film #T9-0038, page # 19A: M. W. Busby, self married, male, white, age 32, b AL farmer, father b AL mother b TN L. H. Busby, wife, married, female, white, age 32, b AR housekeep, father b VA mother b VA Arkie Busby, dau, single, female, white, age 9 b AR, father b AL mother b AL M. L. Busby, dau, single, female, white, age 4 b AR, father b AL mother b AR Someone in the newsletter spoke of Indian in the Busby line. My grandmother (who was the daughter of Arkie Busby) was indian. As you will note in census above, L H Busby is NOT the mother of Arkie as L H was b AR and Arkie's mother was b AL. I do not know if M. W. Busby was indian or not. But one look at a picture of my grandmother would confirm she was. I know that when Arkie married my gr grandfather, F(rank) L Skillern Jan 5, 1887 in Arkansas Co, AR (County Court Records, Microfilm #0976437-0976440), Frank was 35 years old. My family records show that Arkie Busby was b 10 June 1870 in Indian Territory and d 6 May 1903 (Frank said to have died 10 Feb 1903) and buried in MS. I have no documentation on this, only family sources. If family sources correct, Arkie would have been 17 at marriage to Frank Skillern, age 25 at the birth of my grandmother (ILLa,ILha,Peggy May). The 1900 MS Bolivar Co, Ed 13 Beat 4 Roll 623-802,census show : Skillern, Frank? b oct 1852 age 47, b TN father b TN ,mother b TN Arkansas T or V b June 1870 age 30, b AR father B AL mother b AR Pearly, dau b 1887, age 12 b AR father b TN mother b AR (family states she was raised by a foster family - where is she??) Welby, son age 10 b AR father b TN mother b AR Ed, son age 8 same Fredric son age 8 same twin to Ed Skillern, ILha? dau b July 1895 age 4 b AR Father b TN mother b AR Jim J son b june 1897, age 2 b MS, father b TN mother b AR Birth records of my grandmother, Peggy Skillern are conflicting as a delayed birth certificate issued in 1956 show birth as St Charles, AR, while Social Security application 1936(in name of Peggy May Skillerrn Stewart) show Chickasha, OK. The delayed birth certificate show Arkie Busby as mother b OK, age 30, Frank Skillern as father age 42 b AR. A delayed birth certificate for my father, James Lewis Dorris, b Aug 25, 1912 Camden, AR Shows his mother as Peggy May Skillern, b OK. age 19. Below is an Affidavit that states: State of: Pascagoula, MS, County of: Jackson. I hereby swear under oath in full knowlege of the penalties of the law for false statement tht, to my best knowledge and belief, the facts above state are true and correct in every particular. I am related to this child as: Mother. The next line is filled in with Mrs W. M Spooner, Wilmer, AL (attending physician, midwife, sister, or other person having knowledge of this birth) and my present age is 50 years. Signed Mrs Peggy Dorris, Nurse 10th day of August 1944. Filed Aug 14, 1944. One other oddity in the daughter of Arkie Busby (Peggy) is that I always knew her last name to be Sargent, and is buried under the name Peggy Sargent Dorris. Am sorry to turn this into a Skillern, Dorris page but to find my Busby, you can't have one without the other. I have searched for well over 20 years on this and am no further than the day I started, except for the marriage of Arkie Busby & Frank Skillern - very many thanks to Lana at freelookups at anscestralfindings.com......... Someone, somewhere must have a lead on my line of Busby. BTW, since my line of Busby seem to be a bit shy on male offspring, would my son qualify for a DNA to find the Busby line? Just curious, don't know much about it.
