    3. I always read with interest the BUSBY mail especially when it mentions the Irish Busbys. My great grandfather was Charles Busby who was born about 1860 Ireland. Where in Ireland remains a mystery (as on the census he always gives his place of birth as Ireland), his wife's family came from Antrim though they must have met & they did marry in Glasgow in 1884. I wish I had asked my grandmother more questions about her family, what I do know however is that her father Charles Busby served his time in the shipyard as on her birth certificate his occupation is given as a Boilermaker, when they moved from Glasgow to Newcastle he worked at the Naval yard in Walker as a boilermaker. I also know that he was an Orangeman as he marched every year in July for the Orange Day march. Family hearsay says that he was orphaned & was taken in by an uncle who was anything but kind to him, finally resulting in him running away. Charles was born about 2 years prior to the start of civil registration in Ireland so there is no birth registration for him. On his marriage in 1884 he gave his father as Charles Busby farmer deceased & his mother as Mary Ann Lansley/Lamsley deceased or a similar name ( His marriage certificate is a photocopy & his mothers surname is not that clear) as his parents would appear to be non Catholics the marriage if it took place before 1843 should have been registered but where? I have visited the Mormon Research centre at Billingham as they are my nearest who hold copies of the registers for birth deaths & marriages for Ireland up until 1901. I sent for the only listed Mary Ann Busbys death certificate she died at Ballycraiggy (District of Belfast No8) 28 Oct 1874 she was aged 48 Mechanics wife but no name of husband given the death was registered on Dec 21 1874 by a William McMillen. I have every Busby listed in Griffiths valuations but I am unable to match anything up with Charles. I have several MI & also all the PRO have on Busbys again nothing ties in. The IGI does show a birth of an Elizabeth Busby 16.March 1830 daughter of Charles Busby at Carnmoney/Templepatrick could this be his family. If anyone out there can help I will be very grateful Best wishes Sheila Senior
