Author: kblackie1 Surnames: Busby Johnson Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.busby/2001/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Willard Craig Busby, 59, a life long resident of Lake City died Sunday, October 18, 2009 as a result of an automobile accident near White Springs, Florida. Mr. Busby was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1968, and also a graduate of the University of West Florida, Pensacola, Florida, Class of 1974. Upon his graduation Mr. Busby began working with the Boy Scouts of America in Tallahassee and Perry, Florida. He was a longtime employee of the State of Florida, most recently as a State Probation Officer. Mr. Busby was a most beloved father, son and brother. He was devoted to his two children, son Scott Busby, and daughter Rebecca Busby, and his mother Daphine Busby, all of Lake City. Mr. Busby is also survived by his sister Sharon Johnson (Gary Hall) of Jacksonville, Florida, his niece Kym Johnson of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and Margaret Busby, the mother of his children, Brandon, Florida, who all loved him dearly. Mr. Busby was predeceased by his father, Willard Payne Busby. Mr. Busby was a member of the Columbia High Tigers 1967 State Championship football team where he was the star running back. As a result of his football accomplishments, Mr. Busby was awarded a football scholarship and attended Tennessee Tech University, Cookeville, Tennessee. In an addition to spending time with his family, Mr. Busby was an avid outdoors man and had many adventures with his dear friends, Rod Bowdoin (deceased) and Dallas Johnson. He also enjoyed golfing and riding his motorcycle in the mountains with his daughter, Becca. Mr. Busby was a member of the Elk's Club, Kiwanis Club and remained active with his 1968 CHS classmates. Funeral services for Mr. Busby will be conducted Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, Lake City, where he was a member. Visitation with the family will be from 10:30-11:15 A.M., and services at 11:30 A.M. Arrangements are under the direction of GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 SW Main Blvd., Lake City. 386-752-2414. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Caner Society or the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 697 S.W.
