Seems that Dekalb fought in Texas during the Civil War about 1864 (CONFEDS). Not quite sure if he survived or not....can find this with a search on this site under military. So, either he died or they were divorced, but have seen other trees with death listed as 1871. Anyway, thought that I found a 1870 census with Melvina listed as Melvina Baker, Isaac N. Abbott, and Mary Baker...sure I saw it but forgot to save to Shoebox. Also, another listing under William Baker with William and Melvina as married with several children, so must of had some stepchildren involved. Isaac was just listed under the Baker name. Mary must have been their child and was listed as two, I believe. In the 1880 census, just Melvina Baker, Isaac N. Abbott and Mary Baker and no husband. Read another tree that showed both had died in 1881, but did! n't say much beyond that. In 1871/72, Isaac Newton Abbott married Julia Ellen Lafon in Bosque, Texas. They later moved to Redwater, Texas. Can find marriage in Bosque records. See 1880 census with a few children mentioned (?). 1900 census has several more. Two died before 1900 census. A daughter Florence died about 1902. Three children, Ina, Virgil and, I believe, Curtis were born between 1900 and 1905. Husband Isaac Newton Abbott passed in 1905. Rough times, it seems. Hope that this began with Dekalb and Melvina...seems to have. However, just know about Isaac and Julia Abbott and their decendents personally.
